چکیده

Problem statement: Defining of correlation between toxic and essential elements in human beings is an important clinical screening procedure. Approach: The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between cadmium as toxic element and calcium as an essential element in the blood at the smokers. We have investigated 50 human blood samples of different ages and genders (age: 35-45 years old), of the citizens from the Municipality of Dragash (an environment without pollution). Results: The results that were achieved in this study showed the significant difference in the average of cadmium concentration in human blood of the smokers group from nonsmokers group (p = <0.0001, t = 8.33). Between cadmium and calcium in the blood of the smokers group exists the positive correlation with high statistical reliability (r = 0.544, p = 0.003) while at no-smokers group does not exist (r = -0.097, p = 0.317). Conclusion/Recommendations: Correlation between Cd and Ca in the human blood with a high statistical significance in the group of smokers comes as a result of powerful competitive reaction between Cd and Ca in biochemical processes. Competitive reaction between Cd and Ca in biochemical processes.

In Vitro Inhibition of Human Sperm Creatine Kinase by Nicotine, Cotinine and Cadmium, as a Mechanism in Smoker Men Infertility

Background Nicotine, cotinine and cadmium are harmful components of cigarettes that have an effect on human reproductive function. Although the effects of cigarette smoke on male reproductive function is characterized in several articles its mechanism of action is still unknown. In the present study, we investigate the effect of nicotine, cotinine and cadmium on human sperm creatine kinase acti...

Cadmium in blood and urine related to present and past exposure. A study of workers in an alkaline battery factory.

Blood and urinary cadmium concentrations together with cadmium in air concentrations from the breathing zone of 18 male workers in an alkaline battery factory were determined at regular intervals for 11 consecutive weeks. Nine of the workers examined were smokers and nine non-smokers. Smokers and non-smokers did not differ in age or years of employment. Cadmium in air concentrations varied, but...

Interactions between Cadmium and Micronutrients in Pregnant and Lactating Women

The heavy metal cadmium is a widely dispersed environmental pollutant that has no biological function in the human body and is known to cause several adverse health effects, mainly on kidneys and bone and the endocrine system. Little is known about effects in early life. The main source of exposure in a non-smoking population is via basic foods such as cereals (e.g. wheat and rice) and vegetabl...

The Association of Amniotic Fluid Cadmium Levels with the Risk of Preeclampsia, Prematurity and Low Birth Weight

Background: Cadmium is an extremely toxic metal with ubiquitous environmental distribution. Cadmium is a potent reproductive and developmental toxic agent, and intensive environmental exposure to this substance has been reported among the residents of Tehran. In this study, we investigated the correlation between amniotic fluid cadmium levels and the risk of preeclampsia, prematurity and low bi...

Competition of zinc, cadmium and calcium for binding sites in sperm of trout and carp

Heavy metal pollutions of aquatic ecosystems have already raised many concerns on aquaticorganisms’health and survival especially on their sperm. The effects of a single metal on sperm may be totallydifferent from cocktail of several metals because of their interactions, so the effects of zinc, cadmium andcalcium on the trout and carp sperms and their competition have been examined by incubatio...
